Downtown Public Art

Nicollet Mall Public Art
Up and down the famous Mall are seventeen works of art, some privately commissioned, many commissioned as part of the 1990 Mall renovation.

Hennepin Avenue Utility Art Boxes
Twenty-two frequently-tagged utility boxes in the Hennepin Theater District have been transformed by artists who interpreted Shakespeare's famous speech on the Seven Ages of Man from the play "As You Like It."

Historic Minneapolis Public Art
As part of the commemoration of the City’s 150th Anniversary, this map was created, featuring 22 artworks that honor the City and the people who helped to build it.

Anti-Graffiti Micro Grant Murals
In 2008 the City of Minneapolis Division of Solid Waste and Recycling provided micro grants for innovative graffiti prevention projects. The program supported community-based organizations with innovative projects designed to remove and prevent graffiti. Of the 17 funded projects, 10 used public art to discourage graffiti, resulting in 23 new murals and an artistic utility box project.
