Minneapolis Animal Care & Control
Mission
Working with residents to create safe and healthy communities for people and animals
Description of Services
Minneapolis Animal Care & Control (MACC) receives more than 16,000 field service calls each year. Annually, MACC responds to and investigates approximately 400 animal bite reports, declares 250 aggressive dogs, and ensures compliance of 250 dangerous dogs. In addition, MACC operates a state of the art animal shelter which annually takes in over 4,000 animals. More than 6,000 customers visit the shelter each year. MACC partners with 40 animal rescue groups to send more than 90 percent of all adoptable pets home. The public come to the animal shelter to retrieve a lost or quarantined animal, pay a citation, purchase a pet license, adopt a pet, turn in a stray animal, and/or register a dangerous animal.
MACC’s primary responsibilities are:
- Operate the animal shelter
- License all dogs, cats, rabbits and ferrets in the City of Minneapolis
- Investigate animal bites and conducting quarantines
- Investigate, declare, and track dangerous dogs for compliance
- Investigate cases of animal cruelty
- Pick up and reunite stray and lost animals
- Provide public education
- Issue multiple animal permits (there is NO limit on the number of pets a Minneapolis household may have; however, four or more pets requires a multiple animal pet)
