Minneapolis to Host World Spay Day on February 26, 2013
As part of World Spay Day™, Minneapolis Animal Care & Control is partnering with Minnesota Spay Neuter Assistance Program to host a Spay-a-thon Tuesday, Feb. 26 to promote spay / neuter as a humane and effective means of reducing the number of animals who are put down in shelters each year.
The City continues to work with the Minnesota Spay Neuter Assistance Program to offer free and low-cost spay/neuter surgeries for Minneapolis pets. Free surgeries are available to pet owners in several Northside neighborhoods, and low-cost surgeries are available to low-income Minneapolis residents from other areas of the city.
The Minnesota Spay Neuter Assistance Program's three veterinary teams plus Minneapolis Animal Care & Control's contract veterinarian will be performing 100 surgeries at Minneapolis Animal Care & Control, 212 - 17th Ave North, on Tuesday, February 26. Registration is available by contracting MNSNAP - phone 612-720-8236, office@mnsnap.org or online at www.mnsnap.org.
Between six and eight million cats and dogs enter our nation's shelter system each year. Animal shelters cannot save and support this huge number of accidental litters, stray and offspring of family pets. As a result, nearly four million animals are humanely euthanized annually. It is estimated that 90,000 dogs and cats are humanely euthanized each year in Minnesota due to overpopulation. Spaying and neutering is the only 100 percent proven way to reduce these numbers and save animals' lives.

A special thank you to Chuck & Don's Pet Food Outlet for sponsoring the I'm in the Dog House 2012. Together, we raised nearly $14,000 for the animals at MACC. Above is a photo of 70+ volunteers and partners who joined us to make the 2012 event a successful day! Thanks to everyone!
Spay & Neuter: A Minneapolis Partnership
Minneapolis Animal Care & Control is proud to announce an exciting partnership with Minnesota Spay Neuter Assistance Program (MNSNAP). On March 20, MNSNAP staff performed their first spay and neuter surgeries inside MACC's veterinary clinic. The Minnesota Spay Neuter Assistance Program's mobile veterinary clinic -- the first of its kind in Minnesota -- operates seven (7) days a week and is often parked in MACC's parking lot once a week to serve the community. Through this new public-private partnership, MNSNAP will schedule surgeries for low income pet owners Tuesdays through Friday in hopes of further addressing the severe overpopulation of pets in our city.
Do you live in North Minneapolis (Ward 4 or 5)? You are eligible for a FREE SPAY / NEUTER services (pdf) for your pet.
MNSNAP provides low-cost spay / neuter services for low-income pet owners. For more information or to schedule an appointment, contact MNSNAP. Pet Owners MUST register. Learn more about Free Spay/Neuter Services for Ward 5 (pdf)
