Bites & Aggressive Animals
Minneapolis Animal Care & Control (MACC) responds to animal bites and incidents of animal aggression. Bites and aggressive animal incidents are investigated and reviewed for dangerous animal declaration. Aggression includes any unprovoked action by a domestic animal that requires a person to take a defensive action to avoid being bitten.
If you are bitten or have been the victim of an aggressive animal:
Report the incident to MACC by calling 311 or (612) 673-3000.
Rabies Quarantine
Any animal that has bitten a person is required by law to be quarantined for a 10 day rabies observation period. Even if the animal is current with rabies vaccination, the animal must still be quarantined and observed. MACC determines if the quarantine will occur at the pet's home or at the shelter. The owner is responsible for paying for all fees incurred during quarantine at the shelter.
