Business Information Services (BIS)

BIS helps City of Minneapolis departments leverage technology to meet the City’s business needs to:

  • Provide better services to constituents and stakeholders
  • Promote increased citizen participation in government
  • Enhance staff productivity
  • Capture efficiencies with enterprise technology investments

The BIS Department provides service to City departments through three lines of business: Business Development, Enterprise Infrastructure, and Portfolio Management.

  • Business Development leads implementation of information technology solutions that meet business needs. This includes re-engineering business processes, expanding e-government services, and leveraging geographic information services for enterprise-wide benefits
  • Enterprise Infrastructure manages the architecture and technology investments, directs the quality assurance and business intelligence activities, supports City staff in the use of technology, and oversees the telecommunications and network systems.
  • Portfolio Management works directly with City departments to sustain and enhance their business system applications. This includes the integration of various public safety, property, and resource planning systems to achieve the greatest effectiveness.
