Pedestrian Advisory Committee

The Pedestrian Advisory Committee was created by Resolution 2006R-636 on December 22, 2006 to advise the Mayor and City Council on policies, programs, and actions for improving pedestrian safety, mobility, accessibility, and comfort; for promoting walking for transportation, recreation, and health purposes; and for strengthening the linkage between the pedestrian environment and public transportation. The board is composed of 18-24 members of the public and city and partner agency staff including: 5 community residents representing the following areas: city residents, city business owners, senior citizens, persons with disabilities, university students, child/school advocates, and walking/transit advocates, 1 member of the Minneapolis Senior Citizen Advisory Committee to the Mayor and City Council; 1 member of the Minneapolis Advisory Committee on People with Disabilities; 1 member of the Minneapolis Bicycle Advisory Committee; 5-8 members representing City Departments, including the City Attorney’s office, Public Works; Community Planning and Economic Development; Public Health, Police, Fire, and Communications; 5-8 members representing partner agencies, including Hennepin County, Metro Transit, Metropolitan Council, Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board, Minneapolis Public Schools, MnDOT, University of Minnesota, and U.S. Congressional Office.

Vacancy:

Seats 1 – 7: City Council Appointments; terms of 07/01/2013 – 06/30/2015; applicants must live or own in Minneapolis.

Selection Process:

Applications are considered by the Chair and Vice Chair of the Transportation and Public Works Committee and the Bicycle & Pedestrian Coordinator.. Applications are reviewed by the Transportation and Public Works Committee for recommendation to the full City Council.

Note:

Monthly meetings times are typically the first Wednesday of the month in the afternoon. There is no compensation for serving on the committee. The committee meeting locations are accessible to persons with disabilities.
