Buying & Selling Property in Minneapolis
Important information for residential sales
- Minneapolis requires an evaluation of a residential property before it can be offered for sale. A Truth-in-Sale of Housing (TISH) report is needed for single family homes, duplexes, townhomes, and first-time condo conversions. Learn more about the Truth-in-Housing Program.
- The TISH report is valid for 2 years or one sale of the property, whichever comes first.
- If you are doing work on your home before selling, learn about permit requirements at Permit Overview .
- A Certificate of Approval is issued when there are no required repairs (or if the seller completes the repairs). If the certificate is not issued, the buyer, buyers closer, and buyers agent are responsible for filing the Acknowledgement of Responsibility form within one day of closing.
- The buyer has 90 days from closing to complete the repairs. If the repairs require a permit, (or if you are doing additional work on your home) learn about permit requirements at Permit Overview .
- A buyer must have a new TISH report completed to sell the property.
- Go to the Truth-in-Sale of Housing section for more information.
- If a property is condemned, a code compliance inspection is needed in lieu of the TISH report. For boarded or condemned buildings, find out about Code Compliance inspections and requirements.
