Short term detours
The purpose of the Concrete Streets Rehabilitation Program is to extend the life of some concrete city streets. This program is similar to the Asphalt Pavement Resurfacing Program with the objective to improve and maintain the roadway infrastructure. The goal is to target concrete streets that with proper concrete repair will extend the street’s life to improve ride quality and support neighborhood livability.
Concrete streets generally deteriorate over time as water and salt enter joints and cracks. Poor drainage, underlying soil condition, and higher traffic volumes can accelerate the deterioration. The repair of concrete primarily consists of saw cutting, removing and replacing concrete joints that have deteriorated and other pavement distresses. Other repair techniques include removal and replacement of concrete panels if it is determined the condition of the concrete does not warrant salvaging the panel pavement. Other improvements within the project limits include upgrades to select pedestrian ramps, replacement of select curb and gutter, and a diamond grind resurfacing of the street pavement.
The proposed project is part of the Concrete Streets Rehabilitation Program. Penn-Oliver Ave S was constructed in 1970 and is a good candidate for concrete repair and resurfacing. Concurrent with the street work, utility improvements will be completed associated with gas, and sewer.
