Southwest Windom Residential Neighborhood Reconstruction
Public Works has identified street segments in the Windom Neighborhood as the 2019 Residential Reconstruction Program project. The objective of this annual program is to reconstruct residential street segments in various locations across the City that are in poor condition and no longer candidates for resurfacing or rehabilitation.
See project details for the Southwest Windom project in the Project Handout.
The City of Minneapolis proposes to reconstruct the following street segments:
- West 61st Street – east to Lyndale Avenue
- West 62nd Street – east to Colfax Avenue South
- Dupont Avenue South – between West 61st Street and West 62nd Street
- Colfax Lane South – between West 61st Street and Aldrich Avenue South
- Aldrich Avenue South – between Colfax Lane South and West 62nd Street
The proposed .86 mile long project is scheduled to occur over the course of the 2019 construction season. The scope of the project will encompass the entire right-of-way and will include full removal of the existing street, subgrade correction, new pavement, curb and gutter, driveways, sidewalks as needed, utility work as needed, and signage. The project will also include streetscape improvements including trees planted in the boulevard.
City staff is currently in the preliminary stages of planning and design for the project, which will be accompanied by community outreach activities that will help inform and guide design concepts. Public Works relies on planning guidance and community input to inform the design of streets.
Project Schedule and Public Input
Public Works intends to advance a layout of these streets for City Council approval by Fall of 2018. Public Works will be engaging stakeholders in the spring and summer of 2018 to understand what design elements are important to consider in the Windom Neighborhood. There may be opportunities to explore unique features and interests specific to the neighborhood as part of this project.
