Boards, Commissions, and Advisory Committees (open appointments process)

The City of Minneapolis has 42 boards, commissions and advisory committees governed by the Open Appointments process as established in Code of Ordinance Section 14.180. These organizations, composed of citizen volunteers, advise the City on current issues and assist the City in policy development and administration of services.

Follow this link for a list of boards, commissions and advisory committees.

When a vacancy occurs, the City Clerk sends a notice to the Mayor, City Council, Communications and Telecommunication offices who notify citizens that a position is available. Citizens send applications to the City Clerk. Staff in appropriate departments makes recommendations to the Council and Mayor for approval. Each board, commission and advisory committee, with support from City staff, establishes its own goals and objectives and responsibilities for membership.
