State of the City 2003The Planning Division of the Minneapolis Department of Community Planning and Economic Development is pleased to release the twenty-ninth edition of the State of the City. The report provides a statistical profile of Minneapolis, describes signs of the city's condition, and examines patterns of change. This year's edition contains recently released decennial census data. Although each edition varies in content, the series together provides a continuous year-by-year update in many subject areas. The data contained herein is the most current and accurate information available. The State of the City report is available only on the Web. The Web version makes it feasible to update the reports to provide you with most up-to-date information that is available to the City from its various agencies. About the reportEach State of the City chapter begins with a description of specific data sources. The sources vary, as do the periods that can be described by available data. Where possible, data for the full year or a portion of a year are described and contrasted to those of previous years. When available, additional data for a portion of 2003 have been added to reveal current signs of change. Older information is used when it is the most current data available. Occasionally this report looks beyond the city's boundaries for comparative data, but typically compares Minneapolis in the present to Minneapolis in the recent past to show the direction of change. Information describing sub-areas of the city is provided where the data are available. For example, some maps concentrate on The staff of the Planning Division has produced State of the City 2003 with assistance from several city departments and other agencies.
