Prevailing Wage


Prevailing Wage Requirements

The Davis-Bacon and Related Acts, apply to contractors and subcontractors performing on federally funded or assisted contracts in excess of $2,000 for the construction, alteration, or repair (including painting and decorating) of public buildings or public works. Davis-Bacon Act and Related Act contractors and subcontractors must pay their laborers and mechanics employed under the contract no less than the locally prevailing wages and fringe benefits for corresponding work on similar projects in the area.


The City of Minneapolis Prevailing Wage Ordinance requires all contractors and subcontractors performing work on city-funded (or state funded) construction projects in excess of $50,000 to pay their laborers and mechanics not less than the prevailing wage rate (in accordance with the federal Davis-Bacon Act and related federal regulations) for corresponding classes of laborers and mechanics employed on similar projects in the area.

If you are an employee who has worked on a City of Minneapolis project and believe you have not been paid prevailing wage for any reason, you may be entitled to monetary restitution. Restitution is the dollar difference between what you were paid and the applicable prevailing wage.
