Purpose
The Transportation and Public Works Committee considers: Infrastructure improvements such as skyways, street lighting, streets, bridges, sanitary sewers and storm drains, water treatment and traffic control facilities.
Traffic issues relating to snow and ice control, are considered as well as roadways at the Minneapolis/St. Paul airport.
This committee has also established Special Service Districts in downtown Minneapolis, on Nicollet Avenue South, in the Hennepin/Lake Area, on Central Avenue, and in the Dinkytown area ensuring easy access to these shopping areas.
A bike plan was established to improve bikeways in the City.
This committee considers recycling and solid waste disposal issues; reviews bids submitted by the Purchasing Department; holds public hearings regarding special assessments and considers appeals from the staff decision concerning block events and encroachment permits.
