Heritage Preservation & Public Art
As CPED works to grow a sustainable city, we promote historic preservation and the artistic and cultural life of the city, and provide staff support for the Minneapolis Heritage Preservation and Arts commissions.
Heritage Preservation
Preserving significant parts of our past gives us a sense of our roots, and helps us remember where we came from and see where we want to go. CPED provides staff support for the Minneapolis Heritage Preservation Commission and the Minneapolis Heritage Preservation Awards program, and maintains an online inventory of local landmarks and historic districts.

Arts & Public Art
CPED provides staff support for the Minneapolis Arts Commission and works closely with the commission to integrate arts programming into the City's overall goals and comprehensive plan. Specific programs include Art in Public Spaces, the Public Art Adventure Map, Art in the Mayor’s Office and the annual Mosaic festival of arts and culture.
CPED also promotes and fosters film and video production, recording and new media by providing film permits and referral assistance to production companies, and administers the ten-year Minneapolis Plan for Arts and Culture.
