Century Homes Program

The Century Homes Program is a partnership between the City of Minneapolis and the Greater Metropolitan Housing Corporation (GMHC) to build new single-family homes on city owned vacant lots.

The City sells vacant lots to GMHC and, when development costs exceed sales prices, provides half of the gap financing to develop the properties. The City can also provide mortgage loans to qualified buyers through its CityLiving

In 2005, the Century Homes Program began working with Hennepin County's Sentencing to Service Homes Program, which enables screened participants, from minimum-security facilities to work under a general contractor to construct new homes. Once they have completed their sentence and graduate from the STS Home Program, participants are offered union apprenticeship carpentry positions.

Approximately 279 homes have been built through the Century Homes Program since it began in 1994.
