Long Range Planning: Urban Design
Urban design uses innovative practices and incorporates new technology to provide clarity and legibility to the planning, design, and implementation of projects across the City.
The Urban Design function in Long Range Planning Division features:
- Advocates for a collaborative design review process among stakeholders and other city agencies
- Develops, maintains, and assesses urban design policies and principals that reflect the character and nature of the vibrant neighborhoods in Minneapolis
- Advances conversations and shared experience through analysis, public processes, and collaborative engagement to raise the value and necessity of a shared public realm
- Pushing design boundaries and encouraging risk taking in the public realm by sharing and advocating for best practices in design to be explored and tested in Minneapolis

2016 Parklet Program Now Open!
Parklets are an innovative and cost effective way to add public gathering space to public streets. Parklets are streetscape enhancements, providing and economical solution for increased public open space. The goal of the parklet program is to make the City more livable, walkable, and beautiful.
