Bennett Lumber Site

This EAW studies the proposed Bennett Lumber Parcels 1 and 2 Redevelopment project which will result in the redevelopment of two industrial parcels located between Colfax and Emerson Avenues north of the Midtown Greenway. Both parcels front the Greenway, which is a recreational trail and a historic district. The parcel between Colfax and Dupont Avenues is within the historic district. The parcels will be redeveloped as approximately 178 units of condominiums in four new four-story buildings and one rehabilitated historic building. All existing buildings on site will be demolished, except for the building fronting the railroad grade, which will be rehabilitated for residential use.

Copies of the EAW will be available for review at the downtown Minneapolis Public Library located at 250 Marquette Ave., the Walker Library located at 2880 Hennepin Avenue and in the office of the City Planning Division at 210 City Hall.

Notice will be published in the EQB Monitor on Monday, January 30, 2006. Public comments on the EAW must be made within the 30-day comment period, which ends at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 1, 2006. The Zoning and Planning Committee at its regular meeting on March 23, 2006, or at a subsequent meeting, will receive a report and recommendation from City staff, hear comment from all parties and consider the adequacy of this EAW and the need for an Environmental Impact Statement for this proposal. The City Council will act on the recommendation of this Committee at a subsequent meeting on March 31, 2006.

Copies of this EAW can also be provided to individuals by email or on a compact disk by request to: [email protected].

For further information and to submit comments on the EAW, contact Becca Farrar, Senior Planner, at the above postal and email addresses and by telephone at (612) 673-3594. Electronic submissions (email, emailed attachments in Word, and discs containing Word documents) are preferred.
