Minneapolis City Council Adopts Plan

The Minneapolis Plan for Sustainable Growth was unanimously adopted by the Minneapolis City Council on October 2, 2009.  Prior to City adoption, the Plan was approved by the Metropolitan Council on July 22, 2009 along with a memorandum of understanding, clarifying an agreement between the Metropolitan Council and the City regarding updates to the sewer plan.

Plan Approved by Met Council

The comprehensive plan was approved by the Metropolitan Council on July 22, 2009. Also approved was a memorandum of understanding, clarifying an agreement between the Metropolitan Council and the City regarding updates to the sewer plan.

The plan will now come before the Planning Commission and City Council for final approval. This version of the plan is very similar to the one approved last summer, with a few technical amendments.

Draft Plan Approved for Submittal to Met Council

The Planning Commission reviewed the draft and made a recommendation for approval to the City Council regarding the plan’s submittal to the Metropolitan Council at a public hearing on June 2, 2008. The plan was subsequently approved for submittal by the City Council on July 11, 2008.

Public Comment Period Completed

The draft plan was made available from December 1, 2007 to February 15, 2008 for public review and comment. Comments were received via email, online surveys, phone, letter, and in person at the January open houses.

Comments were compiled, and staff responded individually to each one received including indicating any changes made to the plan. Comments and responses have been compiled. Changes to the plan were also highlighted in the draft presented to the Planning Commission and City Council.

January 2008 Public Open Houses Held

A series of public open houses on the draft plan were held in January 2008. Comments received were incorporated into the summary from the public comment period, available above.
