Minneapolis Monitoring Stations

Minneapolis has nine air quality monitoring stations; three of which have been added since 2002, two in South Minneapolis, and in Northeast. This system of monitoring stations provides good baseline information for most pollutants. However, there is no monitoring for mercury or acid rain, and one of the recommendations of this report is that an agreement be entered into with EPA for five years to monitor both mercury and acid rain.

To address the air quality challenges of the future will require new strategies targeted at transportation: cleaner fuels, better engines, more transportation alternatives and planning for smarter, more sustainable communities.
