The Environmental Health program works to protect the health and safety of the public by regulating food establishments, hotels/motels, swimming pools, body art establishments, laundry/dry cleaning operations, tanning facilities, and non-community wells. Code Compliance Officers conduct health inspections, investigate complaints and outbreaks, and enforce applicable city ordinances, state laws, and federal regulations.

We work closely with our partners at the local, state ( MDH, MDA ) and federal ( FDA , USDA ) levels as well as with the University of Minnesota to ensure that our business communities have access to the information and resources they need to comply with health and safety standards.

To learn more about these programs and the requirements for opening or operating these types of businesses in the City of Minneapolis, see Enforcement and Ordinances.
