Emergency Medical Service

Fire Department personnel stationed at the 19 Minneapolis fire stations are also trained Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) and provide BLS First Response in the City of Minneapolis. The departments 29 emergency response apparatus respond on between 21,000 and 23,000 EMS calls yearly. The average response time to those calls is around 3 minutes an 59 seconds. The department has 386 EMTs that attend 16 hours of continuing education in a variety of basic and advanced emergency medical topics. Advanced life support is provided by Hennepin  Emergency Medical Services and North Memorial Medical Center
