Health and Wellness Classes

The City offers health and wellness classes that are worth 25 points each.  Report that you attended up to two classes to earn points under the wellness program.  In order to receive points for the class, visit the Rewards page or the Featured tile on the HealthMap page of your My Health Rewards website to report your attendance.  Sign up for a class through Comet Learning and Development.  Additional classes will be added so continue to visit this page for the most up to date information.

  Ergonomics
This training will provide an overview of the ergonomic factors that affect daily work of employees at the City. Employees can learn about the risk factors that potentially contribute to accidents/injury or work-related musculoskeletal disorders and strategies for injury prevention. Increase awareness of work place ergonomics, understand the breadth and scope of office/ occupational ergonomics, obtain basic knowledge in the application of ergonomic principles to design of your workplaces and the prevention of work related injuries and learn how to get help adjusting your work station.

Dealing with sleep issues

Do you have difficulty sleeping? Check out this program where you’ll explore sleep disorders and their causes (circadian rhythms, insomnia and snoring/sleep apnea), discuss the benefits of sleep studies and examine sleep’s relationship to stress and the release of cortisol. Additionally, you’ll identify ways to address insomnia and leave with helpful resources.

Self Defense
This defensive tactics course will give you a broad overview of techniques that can be applied in self-defense scenarios.  We will also be discussing situational awareness and what type of mindset to have when facing an attacker.  The class will be based on Jiu Jitsu techniques, which is a grappling martial art.  You will learn several escapes from standing and ground positions.  All ages and fitness levels are welcome.

Identity theft has become so prevalent that chances are either you or someone you know has been a victim. It’s not uncommon for these situations to take hundreds of hours and dollars to resolve. Breast Cancer Awareness
This is an seminar is designed to educate and empower participants regarding breast cancer awareness. It’s for informational purposes only; it’s not intended to give medical advice, to diagnose, or make treatment recommendations. Participants will learn about causes and risk factors, early warning signs and breast self-exams and diagnostic tests. There will also be discussion about what happens after a breast cancer diagnosis, the kinds of treatments and treatment expectations as well as coping and getting support.
