License Reinstatement

Code Requirements

Minneapolis Code of Ordinances 244.1910(13) specifies that rental licenses that have been revoked by the Minneapolis City Council are eligible to be reinstated. Persons who have had an interest in a license revoked (or canceled due to condemnation under Minneapolis Code of Ordinances 244.1925) shall be ineligible from obtaining any new rental dwelling licenses for a period of three (3) years. Persons who have had an interest in two (2) or more licenses revoked (or canceled due to condemnation under Minneapolis Code of Ordinances 244.1925) or a combination of revocations or cancellations shall be ineligible to hold or have an interest in a rental dwelling license or provisional license for a period of five (5) years.

Once the period of ineligibility has passed, applicants must meet several more requirements:

Once these conditions have been met, the reinstatement will be put on the next available agenda for the Economic Development & Regulatory Services Committee of the City Council. The committee normally meets twice per month. The committee recommendation is then forwarded to the next full City Council meeting. If the City Council votes to reinstate the license, it will be published in Finance & Commerce approximately eight days after the Council meeting. After the Council Action is published in Finance & Commerce, the rental license can be issued. The owner must submit a rental license application along with the appropriate rental license fees at that time.

Please be aware that the property cannot be rented until the rental license has been issued.
