PCs for People

The City of Minneapolis donates its used computers to PCs for People through our agreement with Unisys for distribution throughout Minneapolis.

Since 2009, the City and Unisys have donated 2,770 devices including 1,941 desktop computers and 650 laptops.

To receive a computer from PCs for People a potential recipient must be below the 150% poverty level, have a family member with a disability, work with a social worker or involved in financial assistance programs. Individuals receiving a computer are asked to provide a small donation usually $35-50. Many times government programs that clients are involved in will cover the donation.

PCs for People offers a low cost Internet option along with their computers: $50 includes a mobile 4G portable hotspot and 3 months of Internet. Ongoing cost of Internet service is $10 per month.

PCs for People also provides low cost computer repair for those eligible.  Contact: pcsforpeople.com, 651-354-2552, 1481 Marshall Ave, St. Paul, MN 55104

Expanding the Digital Equity Pilot Program

Unisys and PCs for People also work together to support the City's Digital Equity Program.  In November 2013, Unisys donated $6,400 to PCs for People to provide computers with Internet access to 40 Minneapolis households as an expansion of the Digital Equity Program.  The team is partnering with Build Wealth Minnesota, Pillsbury United Communities - Waite House, and Little Earth United Tribes to customize the program's framework and digital literacy training to meet the goals and interests for the Minneapolis residents participating in each of these community programs.
