What does it mean that I've been placed on an eligible list?

It means that you meet the qualifications for a position, passed any tests that were given, and are eligible to be considered by a hiring manager for an interview and/or hire. The City is always looking for talented team members who want to serve their community while building their career so we may continue to use the same list of qualified/eligible candidates to hire for future vacant positions for a specific period of time (until the eligible list expires).

Can I update an application once I have submitted it?

No. You may call Human Resources at 612-673-2282 to determine if amending your application or attachments is possible, depending on what stage the hiring process is in.

How can I get an update on the hiring process and my status?

Log into your NEOGOV account and click “Application Status” under your username. You will see a list of submitted applications and the status of each. The status message will be updated throughout the hiring process. You will also receive specific hiring status notifications via email, unless you have unsubscribed to email communications. If you have unsubscribed, you will still receive the email messages in your NEOGOV account Jobseeker Inbox.

How long does the hiring process take?

The City hires for multiple positions from the same pool of applicants and we work hard to make sure our new employees are dedicated to serving community while building their careers. This process can take between 45-60 days to complete. Timing also depends on the position applied for. See an overview of the recruitment and hiring process at the City.

What should I do if I'm having technical difficulty creating an account, logging into my account or completing an application?

If you forgot your password, use the ‘Reset Password’ link in NEOGOV that is directly below the username and password login box. The system will generate an email containing a link to reset your password. Please be sure to check your spam/junk mail folders and also add [email protected] and [email protected] to your ‘safe sender’ list. The link within the email expires after 72 hours. For additional assistance, contact NEOGOV Applicant Support at 1-855-524-5627 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. CST, Monday-Friday.

How do I know if you received my application?

You will receive an “Application Submitted Successfully” message within the online application when you have submitted your application. In addition, you will receive an email confirmation to the email address provided in the application. To check the positions you have submitted applications for, log in to your NEOGOV account and click on “Application Status” under your username.

Is the pay range on the job posting negotiable?

No, the pay range is firm as it is negotiated with collective bargaining units (unions). However, you can negotiate a starting salary within the range with the hiring authority.

Will you accept a resume for a position that isn’t open for application, but which I’m interested in?

No, the City does not accept resumes for consideration without applying for a specific position. If you are interested in a type of position that is not currently open for application, sign up for a job alert for that position or category of job. You will be notified via email when a position is open for application.

I missed the application deadline, can I still apply?

No, only applications submitted by 11:59 p.m. on the application close date will be considered.

When will I be contacted for an interview?

After you have been notified by Human Resources that you have been placed on the eligible list, the hiring manager will directly contact you to schedule a department interview. If you have not been contacted, you can check the Application Status within your NEOGOV account, or contact Human Resources at 612-673-2282.
