An elevator permit is required for:

- Modernization
- Wrecking
- Removal from service
- Repairs/Replacements
- Water damage
- Testing
- Construction use
- Temporary use/Restricted use
- Is needed for related devices, such as escalators, dumbwaiters, chairlifts, etc.

Note: A licensed contractor must get the permit and perform the work.
After an elevator permit is issued, at least one inspection is required before the work can be approved.
