ACTION ITEM
 
1.      3800 Pleasant Avenue, Ward 8
Staff report by Lauren Anderson with John Smoley
The Department of Community Planning and Economic Development recommends that the Heritage Preservation Commission adopt staff findings for the nomination of the Church of Incarnation, to include the church building, church rectory, and Moynihan Hall, as a Historic District located at 3800 Pleasant Avenue and 3801/3817 Pleasant Avenue:
A.      Nomination as an Historic District.
Recommended motion: Approve the nomination of the Church of the Incarnation Historic District as a  historic district; establish interim protection; and direct the Planning Director to prepare or cause to be prepared a designation study.

2.      15 16th Street North, Ward 7
Staff report by Nicholas Baker, PLAN4550
The Department of Community Planning and Economic Development recommends that the Heritage Preservation Commission adopt staff findings for the application by the Basilica of Saint Mary for the properties located at 15 16th Street North and 1601 Laurel Avenue:
A.      Certificate of Appropriateness.
Recommended motion: Approve the certificate of appropriateness to allow construction of a new accessory maintenance garage on the grounds of the Basilica of St. Mary, an Individual Landmark, subject to the following conditions:
  1. Approval of the final plans by the Department of Community Planning and Economic Development.
  2. By ordinance, approvals are valid for a period of two years from the date of the decision unless required permits are obtained and the action approved is substantially begun and proceeds in a continuous basis toward completion. Upon written request and for good cause, the planning director may grant up to a one year extension if the request is made in writing no later than July 11, 2019.
  3. By ordinance, all approvals granted in this certificate of appropriateness shall remain in effect as long as all of the conditions and guarantees of such approvals are observed. Failure to comply with such conditions and guarantees shall constitute a violation of this Certificate of Appropriateness and may result in termination of the approval.  
 
3.      66 12th Street South, Ward 3

The Department of Community Planning and Economic Development recommends that the Heritage Preservation Commission adopt staff findings for the application by OHP Preservation Limited Partnership for the Ogden Apartment Hotel at 66 12th Street a local historic landmark:
A.      Certificate of Appropriateness.
Recommended motion: Approve the certificate of appropriateness to allow for the rehabilitation of the Ogden Apartment Hotel/The Continental that includes infilling a basement entrance and construction of an accessory structure, subject to the following conditions:
  1. For the proposed infill of the basement entrance on LaSalle, the applicant shall recess the infill brick the same depth as the current infilled basement window opening on LaSalle Avenue.
  2. The proposed accessory structure shall utilize primary exterior materials that match the primary exterior materials of the principal structure (i.e. brick) and the roof pitch shall match the roof pitch of the principal structure (flat).
  3. By ordinance, approvals are valid for a period of two years from the date of the decision unless required permits are obtained and the action approved is substantially begun and proceeds in a continuous basis toward completion.  Upon written request and for good cause, the planning director may grant up to a one year extension if the request is made in writing no later than July 11, 2019.
  4.
