2017 Keynote Speaker - Dr. Rose Brewer
Dr. Rose M. Brewer is a sociologist, activist, and the Morse Alumni Distinguished Teaching Professor of African American & African Studies, University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. She is also a past chairperson of that Department. She writes extensively on gender, race, class, social inequality and social change, publishing over 70 articles, book chapters and essays. She co-authored the award winning book, The Color of Wealth and is the editor of several other volumes.
For more than a decade she served on the board of Project South: Institute for the Elimination of Poverty and Genocide, was a founding member of the Black Radical Congress, and served as a Board member of United for a Fair Economy (UFE). She is a national and local facilitator of curriculum change projects focused on building critical classrooms. She is the recipient of the Josie R. Johnson Social Justice Award-University of Minnesota, the 2013 American Sociological Association’s Distinguished Teaching Award and was the 2014 College of Liberal Arts Dean’s Medalist. Dr. Brewer works continuously for social transformation locally and globally working to create strong communities and social justice.
