CARAG's average household size was consistently smaller than Minneapolis' between 1980 and 2000.

Households of people who live alone and are under 65 were the largest household type in CARAG at 44 percent of the total. Moreover, these households increased 14 percent between 1980 and 2000. The second largest household type, family households, decreased 32 percent during this same period.

The percentage of all householders living alone was higher in CARAG compared to Minneapolis in the three census years between 1980 and 2000.

The percentage of seniors living alone was higher in CARAG than Minneapolis between 1980 and 2000. The difference between the neighborhood and the city grew during this period.

Between 1980 and 2000 the proportion of families with children in CARAG decreased from 39 percent to 36 percent. The proportion of families with children in the neighborhood is smaller than the proportion in Minneapolis, where 50 percent of the families have children under 18.
