Beltrami's average household size in 1980, 1990 and 2000 was higher than Minneapolis' average. In 2000, Beltrami had an average of 2.7 people per household compared to 2.3 people per household in Minneapolis. Beltrami's average household size in 2000 was also higher than its own 1980 figure.

More than half of the households in Beltrami are family households. And although family numbers increased from 1980 to 2000, the overall number of households increased faster with more people living alone and people not related to each other living together. As a result, families were 53 percent of the households in 2000, compared to 54 percent in 1980. Between 1980 and 2000 the proportion of seniors living alone decreased one point to 4 percent. Their numbers, however, stayed the same at 21 seniors living alone.

Since 1980, the proportion of householders living alone has been lower in Beltrami than in Minneapolis. In 2000, 29 percent of Beltrami's residents lived alone while 40 percent of residents citywide lived alone. However, the proportion in the neighborhood did increase after a drop in 1990.

The proportion of senior residents living alone is lower in Beltrami than in the city. And while this proportion decreased slightly in the city, it increased sharply in the neighborhood in 2000 after a drop in 1990. This trend in Beltrami was coupled with a decrease in the 65+ population.

Between 1980 and 2000 the proportion of Beltrami families with children increased from 44 percent to 54 percent. The neighborhood's percentage in 2000 was slightly larger than Minneapolis', where 50 percent of the families had children under 18.
