The proportion of people living in poverty decreased slightly in Bryant and increased in Minneapolis to meet the neighborhood's percentage in 1999. The percentage of people 65 and over living below the poverty level in Bryant dropped from 14 percent in 1979 to 3 percent in 1989 and jumped to 20 percent in 1999. In Minneapolis the percentages of people 65 and over living in poverty were relatively stable.

A larger percentage of families lived in poverty in Bryant than citywide. However, between 1979 and 1999, the neighborhood's percentage decreased while city's percentage increased.

The percentage of families with children living in poverty also tended to be higher in the neighborhood than in the city. In 1979 30 percent of families with children lived in poverty — 13 percent higher than citywide. The figure decreased in 1989, and in 1999 it was only 3 percent higher than the citywide rate.
