The size of the average household in Linden Hills has decreased since 1980, falling below the Minneapolis average. In 2000, the neighborhood had an average of two people per household, compared to the citywide average of 2.3.

In 2000, Linden Hills had a total of 3,628 households. Family households accounted for a majority of these residences, but declined in 1990 and 2000. The number of people under the age of 65 living alone is on the rise in the neighborhood. However, the number of seniors living alone is decreasing, a trend that corresponds with an overall decline in the number of residents over age 65.

The total number of people living alone in Linden Hills increased in both 1990 and 2000. The percentage of householders living alone was below the Minneapolis average in both 1980 and 1990, but equaled the citywide average in 2000.

The number of seniors living alone in Linden Hills decreased in both 1990 and 2000. Despite this decrease, the proportion of seniors living alone remained the same from 1980 to 1990. The percentage of seniors living alone in the neighborhood is greater than the Minneapolis percentage.

The percentage of Linden Hills families with children under 18 decreased from 46 percent in 1980 to 42 percent in 1990, then rebounded to 47 percent 10 years later. The neighborhood's percentages were lower than the citywide ones in 1990 and 2000.
