The percentage of people living in poverty in Marshall Terrace was below the Minneapolis percentage in 1979 and 1989, but it exceeded the citywide figure in 1999. The neighborhood's percentage of people 65 years and over in poverty was above Minneapolis' in 1979 and 1999, but it was below the citywide figure in 1989.

Marshall Terrace had a lower percentage than Minneapolis of families living below the poverty level in 1979 and 1989. In 1999, however, the neighborhood percentage rose above the citywide figure. Marshall Terrace's percentage of families with children under 18 below the poverty level was similar to Minneapolis', but in 1999 the percentage was above the citywide figure.
