Minneapolis ranks among top places to recruit small businesses

Minneapolis is one of the top 100 places in the nation to live and launch a small business according to Fortune Small Business Magazine (online at www.CNNMoney.com). Minneapolis was also the most active small business recruiter in Minnesota, coming in at No. 23 on the top 100 list. The magazine cites the Minneapolis’ support of emerging entrepreneurs through its Community Planning and Economic Development (CPED) capital acquisition programs and the one-stop business center as prime motivating factors for small business to launch or relocate here.

The magazine also cited the University of Minnesota, its research facilities, the lakes, the cultural scene and sports activities in and around the city, and local philanthropic institutions as key factors for attracting small businesses and entrepreneurs to Minneapolis.

Minneapolis CPED works with local and regional partners to preserve and enhance the city’s natural and built environment. The department’s goals include developing a vibrant, sustainable community by promoting private sector growth and economic self-sufficiency for individuals and families, developing and preserving life-cycle housing and partnering with others to promote regional growth and investment.
