City co-sponsors Regional Convening on Race and Equity

To address ongoing racial inequities in things like employment, education, health and criminal justice, the City of Minneapolis, the City of Saint Paul, the Metropolitan Council and other partners are leading a  two-day Regional Convening on Race and Equity.

The Haas Institute for a Fair and Inclusive Society is hosting the series of meetings and workshops on Aug. 5 and 6. The goals of the Convening on Racial Equity are:

·         To increase understanding of and commitment to racial equity

·         To make significant improvements in the community.

·         To share local and national racial equity best practices.

·         To expand on cross-jurisdictional, cross-community, and cross-sector strategies in improving racial equity.

·         To promote more collaboration following the Regional Convening.

The Convening is co-hosted by Minneapolis Mayor Betsy Hodges and Saint Paul Mayor Chris Coleman, and co-sponsored by nine governmental jurisdictions and nearly 30 community-based organizations. Approximately two dozen Minneapolis City employees are taking part.

The information gathered from the Regional Convening will go towards the creation of the City’s own Racial Equity Action Plan, which will recommend new policies and programs that target current inequities. City staff will also hear and learn from the experiences other U.S. cities have had in addressing racial inequities.
