Mayor and City Council inauguration set for Monday, Jan. 8
WHAT: Mayor Jacob Frey and all 13 City Council members will subscribe to their oaths of office during a public inaugural ceremony.
WHEN: 9:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 8
WHERE: City Hall Rotunda, 350 S. Fifth St.
MORE: During the inaugural ceremony, Mayor Frey and the City Council members will take their oaths of office. The mayor will also deliver his inaugural address. The inauguration will be broadcast live on Channel 14 and on the City’s website. It will also be livestreamed at the City’s Facebook page. Media crews can set up on the first floor of City Hall above the ground-level Rotunda to cover the inauguration. (Note: The mayor and City Council members were legally sworn in Jan. 2.)
The ceremony will feature American Indian and Hmong ceremonial blessings; an invocation by Imam Asad Zaman; a reading by Saciido Shaie; musical performances by Alyssa Schwitzer, the Shiloh Temple International Ministries choir and Ivory Doublette; a benediction by Temple Israel Senior Rabbi Marcia Zimmerman; and a postlude ceremony by Mexica Yolotl, a traditional Aztec dance group.
Following the inauguration, the City Council will hold an organizational meeting in the Council Chamber, Room 317 of City Hall, to elect new leadership, establish standing committees and adopt a calendar of regular meetings, among other matters. There will be limited, reserved space for media in the Council Chamber as well as in Room 319 and Rotunda for public overflow. Media must show credentials to get into the Council Chamber. The organizational meeting will also be broadcast live on Channel 14 and on the City’s website.
