Police officers and firefighters volunteer to build retaining wall

On May 31, volunteers from the Police Department and Fire Department will compete for bragging rights as they build retaining walls and landscape two adjacent Habitat for Humanity homes on Irving Avenue in north Minneapolis.

You need not be a member of the Police or Fire Department to help with this effort. To volunteer, visit https://volunteering.tchabitat.org/VMSWeb/register.php?type=other. When the registration form asks for a group affiliation, use the arrow key to select the “Heros for Habitat” option. Or, email 4th Precinct Commander Mike Martin or Fire Chief John Fruetel with your name and contact information. (Work will occur at 2210 Irving Ave. N. from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Lunch will be provided.)

Habitat for Humanity is an organization that works to eliminate poverty housing and make decent, affordable shelter available. The organization builds and rehabs simple, quality homes in partnership with low-income families and the community. It then sells the homes with zero percent interest mortgages. The organization also helps preserve homeownership by helping low-income homeowners repair and maintain their homes through our A Brush with Kindness program and by assisting families living in the City of Minneapolis who are facing foreclosure or who have fallen behind in their mortgage payments through our Mortgage Foreclosure Prevention program.
