Convention Center hosts letter carrier convention

More than 9,000 members of the National Association of Letter Carriers gathered daily at the Minneapolis Convention Center for the union’s 68th biennial convention, which was held July 22 – 27.

Although the letter carriers convention is one of the larger gatherings hosted by the Convention Center in the past 14 years, it is by no means the largest. That distinction goes to the Alcoholics Anonymous convention held in 2000, which attracted 48,000 attendees. Coming close to that attendance record, was the AARP (American Association of Retired Persons) convention which brought 45,000 attendees to the Convention Center in 1998.

Founded in 1889, National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) is the union of city letter carriers employed by the U.S. Postal Service. NALC's national convention is the union's governing body which meets every two years.

At the convention, delegates from across the country considered amendments to the union’s constitution, discussed issues and set national policy for the union. One of group’s major goals at this year’s convention was proposing a path to financial success for the United States Postal Service which, last year, delivered 170 billion pieces of mail last year to more than 151 million homes and businesses in America.
