Donations of fresh produce for food shelves can be dropped off each Wednesday through Oct. 10

If you have more fresh produce than you can use, don’t forget that you can donate it to area food shelves. Simply bring your extra fruits and vegetables to the Public Service Center parking lot on any Wednesday between 8 and 9:30 a.m. The Public Service Center (PSC) is located at 250 South 4th Street, and the parking lot is behind the PSC off 4th Street.

The Department of Health and Family Support arranges for the donated produce to be delivered to two local food shelves — Catholic Charities and Operation Living Hope. Donations of fresh produce are being accepted every Wednesday through Oct. 10 to offer better nutritional options for the individuals and families who rely on food shelves for their basic food needs.

This effort is part of the department’s Healthy Food Shelf project, which is supported by the Minneapolis Department of Health and Family Support’s Statewide Health Improvement Program (SHIP) grant, funded by the Minnesota Department of Health.
