City, rescue group help neglected Great Danes begin their journey to new homes
Five neglected Great Danes have started the journey on their way to new, forever homes thanks to the efforts of Minneapolis Animal Care & Control and Great Dane Rescue of Minnesota & Wisconsin.
Minneapolis Animal Care & Control recently had a total of seven Great Danes at the animal shelter that were involved in a hoarder case. Two Great Dane puppies were adopted and the remaining five dogs were released to Great Dane Rescue of Minnesota & Wisconsin last week.

leave the animal shelter. Due to their weak condition, the dogs had to be guided or carried
to the rescue group’s van.
Minneapolis Animal Care & Control officers recently discovered a Minneapolis home where more dogs were living than allowed by City ordinance and none of the dogs were receiving humane care. Minneapolis Animal Care & Control worked with the owner and the owner agreed to release seven Great Danes to Minneapolis Animal Care & Control. Up until now, these dogs were living in filthy conditions and have had very little socialization and care. Great Dane Rescue of Minnesota & Wisconsin is now caring for and rehabilitating them until they are ready to be adopted.
Minneapolis Animal Care & Control wants to remind folks that even if they think they are helping by taking in a large number of animals, the fact is it’s not a healthy environment for the people or the pets. Minneapolis Animal Care & Control works with a number of animal rescue groups that play a critical role in finding good homes and medical care for animals that would make good pets. Each year, Minneapolis Animal Care &Control places hundreds of animals with our rescue partners including Great Dane Rescue of Minnesota & Wisconsin, which is taking in five of these Danes. They are one of 38 rescue groups Minneapolis Animal Care & Control works with every day to find good, forever homes for pets in need.
