Brad Ellis, senior City planner
Development Services, Community Planning and Economic Development Department

 Brad Ellis1

Senior City Planner John Smoley nominated Ellis for his service on the City’s zoning team, which has had a positive influence on CPED’s efforts to grow a sustainable city:

“Brad Ellis is the right-hand man for Zoning Administrator Steve Poor. He regularly exceeds his defined job expectations as a senior planner by serving as acting zoning manager during Steve’s temporary assignments as acting division head and during other periods of absence, small or large. Brad is also the most senior planner on the zoning team, and his years of technical and tacit expertise are evident in his work on a daily basis.

“Brad consistently handles the most challenging assignments and customers, and he is always prepared to help his colleagues solve thorny problems. He leads by example. Not only does he effectively solve difficult problems, he leads the division’s efforts to develop zoning policies and procedures that enable front-line staff to handle similarly challenging inquiries in the future. His willingness to generate ideas, share his knowledge, and successfully implement these new ideas presents clear evidence of his ability to motivate his colleagues and leaders to act upon new concepts.

“Brad’s customer service skills are excellent. He consistently promotes a win-win environment, successfully balancing customer requests for streamlining and consideration of innovative concepts while ensuring that they and the city as a whole benefit from safe, well-designed, code-compliant development.

“Additionally, Brad is extremely well-liked by the entire division. His ever-present empathy and dry wit motivate teammates to complete difficult projects and make him one of the people we genuinely look forward to seeing on a daily basis. He may have been born on the darkest day of the year, but Brad’s presence consistently brightens the days of his coworkers.”
