Congratulations, Kris Arneson, new assistant chief of the Police Department

Kris Arneson is the new assistant chief of the Police Department. She’ll begin her new role Sunday, July 5, overseeing the department’s day-to-day operations and 911 response.

Arneson has served as inspector of the 5th and 1st precincts, as a homicide investigator and the deputy chief of the Investigative Division. She’s also led efforts to implement recommendations from the Office of Justice Program following its assessment of the Police Department’s performance management system.

Arneson has been instrumental in helping the Police Department reach out to the city’s diverse communities. That includes work building a safety center for the city’s American Indian community and one for its Somali community. Her work with the Somali safety center, in partnership with the Police Executive Research Forum, is now a national best practices model that has been extensively studied and implemented by other police departments in the United States and Canada.
