Congratulations, Steve Poor, new director of Development Services
Steve Poor is the new director of Development Services for the Community Planning and Economic Development Department. He began his new role July 13.
Poor has more than 25 years of experience working at the City. Since 1989, he has held a variety of positions in Zoning Administration and Planning in the Development Services Division. In 2007, Poor was promoted to Zoning Administration manager, and in April of 2014, he was asked to serve as the Development Services interim director. While in these positions, Poor helped:
- Create an application process for people with recognized disabilities under the law to request reasonable accommodation in compliance with the Federal Fair Housing Act.
- Work on the creation and development of the City zoning enforcement program.
As director of Development Services, Poor will manage a staff of approximately 100 in Zoning Administration; Land Use, Design and Preservation; Construction Code Services; and the Development Review Customer Service Center. He will be responsible for integrating urban design principles into the City’s housing and economic development efforts and for protecting the safety and welfare of the public in the development of the City’s built environment.
A lifelong resident of Minneapolis, Poor has served as an election judge annually for the last 23 years and is a member of the Urban Land Institute.
