Police and Fire to compete in barbecue cook-off

Minneapolis Police, Fire and Park Police will host the third annual Battle of the Badges barbecue cook-off 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15 at North Commons Park, 1801 James Ave. N. The police officers and firefighters will compete against each other at the event to cook the best ribs for a large judging panel of community residents and local celebrities.

As the competitors fire up the grills and smokers, attendees will get free hamburgers and beef hot dogs. The Fire Department will have its smoke trailer at the event and Police will have its K-9 and Mounted Patrol units. Other entertainment will include radio station KMOJ and performances by James Grear and Company, Paris Bennett, Jovonta Patton and DFY, the Hurst Family Experience, and Jamecia Bennett and the three-time Grammy-award winning Sounds of Blackness.
