Bryan Tyner named Fire Department’s new assistant chief of administration
Bryan Tyner is the new assistant chief of administration for the Fire Department. He officially begins the new role Jan. 1.
As assistant chief of administration, Tyner will serve as the Fire Department’s public information officer, responsible for working with the news media. He will serve as chief investigator for the Fire Department, managing any internal discipline issues and making recommendations to the chief. Tyner will also oversee the department’s budget and employee benefits.
Tyner is a 21-year veteran of the Fire Department. Most recently he served as battalion chief for the 5th District. He’s also held the roles of fire marshal, fire captain, fire motor operator and firefighter. He achieved the Executive Fire Officer certification from the U.S. Fire Administration in 2013, and he’s also earned educational awards from the Fire Department.
Tyner served as president of the Minneapolis African American Professional Firefighters Association from 2001-2008. He served from 2009-2013 as the first vice director of the International Association of Black Professional Firefighters north central region. He also coaches basketball for Special Olympics.
