Linda Rock, 911 dispatcher
911 Dispatcher Carri Sampson-Spande nominated Linda for being an exceptional employee with a great attitude:
“Many people who are not in the business (public safety) think 911 dispatch would be an interesting job and they guess at what the calls are like. They often ask, ‘Have you ever talked to someone involved in a shooting or had a funny call?’ … What we do … is so hard to translate quickly into a one-line response. In order to summarize, all I can say, is that after being here 21 years, and watching how the work wears on people … it IS hard work being a party to hundreds of thousands of people’s worst days.”
Carri nominated Linda because:
- She has been a trainer for many years; in 2014 she spent hundreds of hours assisting in the training of new 911 staff.
- She has been a great coworker and peer mentor her entire career with Minneapolis.
- She consistently treats every 911 caller with empathy and compassion.
- She is always quick to step up and help anytime in any capacity needed.
Carri wrote: “As a coworker she is top notch and if you ever needed to call 911 in Minneapolis because it was your worst day, you wouldn’t even realize how lucky you were to have gotten Linda to hold your hand through it.”
