Get to know Asst. Chief of Administration Bryan Tyner

Q. How would you describe your leadership style?
A. Participative – I try to engage all stakeholders in an attempt to see all sides of the issue. Adaptive – I am always looking for ways to improve programs and processes and as such will often manage change.

Q. What do you like best about working for the City?
A. I love the fact that I have the opportunity to make a difference in people’s lives in the city that I grew up in.

Q. What’s your favorite place for lunch in Minneapolis?
A. Famous Dave’s.

Q. What music are you listening to lately?
A. Musically I am still stuck in the past. Most of the music I listen to is R&B from the ‘70s and ‘80s, but I do like Mint Condition. Janet Jackson’s new CD is pretty good also.

Q. Do you have any favorite quotes?
A. “Son, common sense isn’t always a common trait. You have to deal with people accordingly.”
— My father, the late Melvyn D. Tyner

“It is better to remain silent and thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”
— President Abraham Lincoln

Q. What’s your favorite movie?
A. The Godfather. I watch it again every time it comes on. There are some good leadership lessons that can be garnered from that movie.
