Help save a life this holiday season: Give blood Dec. 9 at Currie Maintenance Facility
Blood donations can give the gift of life to patients at local hospitals. You can donate this holiday season on Wednesday, Dec. 9, at the Currie Maintenance Facility, 1200 Currie Ave. N. The Memorial Blood Center bloodmobile will be onsite from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. To sign up to donate, email Jennifer Smith in Fleet Services or call her at 612-673-5737.
Most people in good health and at least 110 pounds may donate blood. All blood types are needed; the need is especially urgent for Type O-negative and Type O-positive blood right now.
All blood donors in the month of December can register to win a Polaris all-terrain vehicle. Visit mbc.org/atv.
About donating blood
Be sure to eat before donating, and bring an ID card. To donate, you should not have had any cold or flu symptoms for three days before the blood drive.
Typically, it takes about an hour to donate blood from the time you sign in until the time you leave. When you arrive, a staff member will determine your eligibility. That involves a few basic health questions; the names of your medications; and a check of your pulse, blood pressure, temperature and red-blood-cell level.
All blood collection equipment is sterile and used only once. After your donation, you’ll get some refreshments to help replenish your fluids. Then you’re ready to resume your normal daily activities.
