Get $25 for choosing a low-cost medical imaging provider

If your doctor recommends you get a CT scan, MRI or mammogram, you can earn a $25 check by selecting a medical imaging service provider that has been identified as a low-cost provider by Medica, the City’s health insurance provider. This Rewards for Health Care Shopping program rewards employees and their dependents for making cost-effective choices about their health care.

Medica offers a list of these low-cost providers at This online shopping guide highlights the lowest-cost providers in green, medium-cost in yellow and the highest-cost in red. Any time you receive your imaging test from one of the lowest-cost providers (highlighted in green), you will receive a $25 check. Just make sure it’s ordered by a doctor in your network and make sure to choose a provider in your network.

Checks are on the way

If you had a CT scan, MRI or mammogram from one of the lowest-cost providers between Oct. 1 and Dec. 31, 2015, watch your mailbox for a $25 check by mid-February.

If you need a CT scan, MRI or mammogram

If you need a medical imaging test, be sure to check Medica’s Rewards for Health Care Shopping. Your imaging service must be ordered by a doctor in your health plan’s network. If you want your imaging test from a lower-cost provider listed in the online shopping guide, let your clinic know so its staff can help you schedule the appointment. Generally, you can work with your clinic to schedule services with an in-network provider of your choice. If you are enrolled in Medica Elect or Medica Essential, check the shopping guide and make sure to choose a provider affiliated with your care system.

If you have your medical imaging test done between Jan. 1 and March 31, you’ll receive a check in mid-May. For a complete 2016 payment schedule, visit the FAQ page.
