Share your big ideas for Minneapolis at the upcoming Community Connections Conference
City departments are invited to submit proposals for attention-getting, interactive exhibits at the fourth annual Community Connections Conference. The theme for this year’s conference: Big Ideas: Your Minneapolis. The event will focus on bringing together residents, nonprofit organizations, business leaders, developers, members of Minneapolis’ design community, City staff and elected officials to think big about the future of Minneapolis.
Conference planners will select 50 exhibit proposals through a juried evaluation process based on the exhibit’s applicability to the conference theme and level of interactivity. The deadline to submit proposals is Wednesday, March 2, and there is no exhibit charge.
Organized by the Neighborhood and Community Relations Department, the Community Connections Conference will take place 8 a.m. to 3p.m., Saturday, April 2, at the Minneapolis Convention Center.
The conference features three tracks:
- Your city: The conference will kick off a three-year planning process for the City’s comprehensive plan called Minneapolis 2040. The plan will serve as the City’s 20-year vision and direct the physical development of the city. Conference attendees will learn about the planning process and discuss ideas for the direction of the city related to growth, equity, resiliency, economic competitiveness and civic technology.
- Your neighborhood: The current neighborhood structure of the Community Participation Program ends in 2020. Conference attendees will learn about opportunities to help plan a vision for the future of neighborhoods and their role in the community beyond 2020.
- Your voice: Community engagement plays a crucial role in shaping City policy. This track will focus on how residents can engage with City leaders, serve on City boards and commissions, and engage our cultural communities.
